Our Mission

Founded in 2010, the Blythewood Historical Society and Museum is a volunteer-driven civic organization dedicated to protecting, nuturing and supporting the historical, pre-historical and cultural heritage of Blythewood through preservation, advocacy and education. Working toward this mission, we promote several objectives and activities.

For instance, we work with the community in the 29016 zip code area to promote preservation of old structures and we develop, promote and maintain the historical walking tour of Blythewood.

We are actively involved in the discovery and and display of historical exhibits and artifacts from the community and in building a collection of historical documents and records — all of which are publicly accessible at our Langford-Nord House for historical and geneaological research. We also organize on-site events to foster awareness of Blythewood history and culture.

We hosted the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit, “The Way we Worked,” which highlighted historically significant people and places nationally and locally. We also offer a number of extraordinary programs throughout the year for our members, the public and students.
