This Year’s Theme

And Still, We Rise

Our theme this year is “And Still We Rise” which is indicative of the hope, faith and courage African Americans have had to demonstraate as they have continued their journey in a wounded country.  We are reminded that “change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we have been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” (Former President Obama)

It is our hope that our small Blythewood community can continue toward our common goal of remembering lessons from our history by telling our stories as a way of preserving the best of ourselves and honoring the history,  legacy, and contributions of our past and present.   As we embrace our multi-cultural community and those who have chosen to live here without regard to the color of their skin, we know that the legacies and histories of our ancestors will continue to direct us, encourage us, educate us, and remind us that this is the dawning of a new day  –  full of promise for our future and that of our children and even unto our unborn generations to come – and through it all  “still we will rise.”

Thank you for participating in our virtual program and we hope that you enjoy it.
